One Kendall Square Music Lab to Showcase Top Local Bands & Restaurants

A concert series featuring top local bands, food and drink from some of the best restaurants in Cambridge is coming to One Kendall Square this summer.

Dubbed “The One Kendall Square Music Lab”, the series will take place on Wednesdays June 17, July 15, and August 19 from 5:30-8:30pm. Prominent local bands The Evan Goodrow Band (6/17), 3rd Left (7/15), and Audio Underground (8/19) are scheduled to perform two-one hour sets at the festival-style events, which will also showcase the menus of The Blue Room, Cambridge Brewing Company, BeanTowne Coffee House, Flat Top Johnny’s, Tommy Doyle’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, and the recently-opened The Friendly Toast. Each restaurant will offer sampler versions of some of their most popular dishes for $5 or less, with a portion of the proceeds going to a local charity, the Kendall Community Group.  Rain Dates: Thursdays June 18, July 16 and August 20.

“One Kendall Square is truly the hidden gem of nightlife in the Cambridge area” said Erin Streeter of Beal & Company, Inc., “With six local bars and restaurants and the latest independent films at The Kendall Square Cinema, there’s something here for everyone on any given night. These three mini-festivals will be a great opportunity for people to experience some of the best menus in Cambridge, while listening to some great live music.”

The events will also serve to raise awareness of and funds for the Kendall Community Group, a unique collaboration of Kendall-based companies and human service agencies that provide a wide range of support for local youth programs. “We’re thrilled that area youth have been chosen as the beneficiaries of this wonderful event” said Bob Hurlbut, executive director of the Cambridge Community Foundation, a local charity that helps lead the Kendall Community Group,  “This event truly reflects what Kendall Square is all about - people coming together with great energy in a community-focused way. The real Cambridge.”

Featured restaurants will contribute gift certificates, as well as one-of-a-kind “experiences” based on their restaurant’s theme. “The Blue Room will be offering a ‘Chef’s Tasting for 6’ in our wine room.” said Nick Zappia, owner.  “The winners will learn how we go about selecting wines to pair with our dishes, and taste different combinations of food and wine.  It’s something we’ve never done for charity, which makes it all the more special.” Other prizes include a “Coffee Cupping for 4” at BeanTowne Coffee House, a “Brewer’s Beer Tasting for 8” at The Cambridge Brewing Company, “Pool School for 10” from Flat Top Johnny’s, 4-Red Sox Tickets + VIP Night for 6 at Tommy Doyle’s” from Tommy Doyle’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, and “Brunch for 6” at The Friendly Toast.

The concerts are the first in a series of culinary and music events at the newly-renovated One Kendall Square. “One Kendall Square is quintessential Cambridge.” said Peter Spellios of Beal & Company Inc., “One that offers an abundance of amenities, yet remains true to its’ history and local roots. We hope these events will be a great way for our tenants and neighbors to come together and enjoy the new One Kendall Square experience.”
